Transform Your New Year with Blessings

A New Year is upon us and it’s time for the “Traditional” New Year’s Resolution. But before you go off and start scrambling to build a new and better you let me share with you some insight into a better way of transforming your life and your New Year. I’ve never been big on “Traditions” unless God established them in the Bible and as for the “Traditions of Men,” well those aren’t worth two cents. They do more harm than good and they are more of men than of God. The same goes for New Year’s Resolutions. They are more a man-made idea than a God given blessing, which ultimately results in more hurt than help. I’ve only made one New Year’s Resolution in my life that I ever kept and that one was to never make another New Year’s Resolution.

Most New Year’s resolutions are destined to failure before they even get started. We may make the resolution to get into shape and even go down to the gym and pay hundreds of dollars for a gym membership. We even go a few times, but then we get distracted, lose our motivation and in a few weeks quit going. What happened? Why did we fail? In reality we didn’t fail. What failed was the power and beliefs behind our desires and the reason they failed was because we were trying to overpower a weakness, instead of building our strengths and that never works. An effort to improve one’s life is not something that can be done with an annual resolution ceremony, which is massive in its conception and yet void of any spiritual power or faith to make it happen. In order to make your New Year wonderful and successful, there’s only one small thing in your life that you need to change: Your Mouth.

Proverbs 6:2 says that we are snared by the words of our mouth and Proverbs 12:14 tells us that we will eat of “the good” of our mouths. What that means is how we speak in our everyday lives is prophesying or creating what our future will be like. We get weighed down by the problems of the day and out of habit turn to friends and family and tell them how bad things are. Guess what? That’s exactly what Satan wants. He knows how powerful words are and has created a culture that thrives on talking about how bad thing are. But doing that doesn’t do anything but prolong the pain. Talking about how one’s world is falling apart doesn’t create a mental or spiritual climate to foster a solution. It only drags you and those you’re sharing with down into a pit of depression and that just thrills the enemy.

Instead of complaining about all the problems we are facing in our lives we need to overpower those problems with the word of God. Until we reach the time of a New Heaven and a New Earth there are always going to be challenging times. But God instructs us in Joel 3:10 that the weak should say: “I am strong.” If we say we are weak or sick then we have set a snare with our mouths and set our lives into a pattern of weakness. Our mouth tells our body what to do and releases spiritual power into the world around us creating what we speak. If we are speaking “good” into our lives we will eat good things. If we are speaking “bad” into our lives we will eat bad things. Don’t let the words of your mouth snare you. As Christians we are empowered by God to transform the world around us. The world may try to create their forgeries with their voodoo hoodoo, but there is no power in it, because God is not behind it. He only stands behind His word to perform it (Jeremiah 1:12).

Instead learn to declare God’s purposes into your life. Find scriptures that line up with God’s will for your life and start speaking those words over your life. If you don’t know God’s plan for your life then spend some time in prayer seeking Him to reveal it to you. Start with scriptures like: Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” By speaking those words you are sending them out into your future preparing it for when you actually get there. You probably won’t see much happening in the near term, but over time things in your life will start turning around in your favor and when the rest of the world is falling apart your life will be fortified to handle the challenges of those days.

After you’ve learned what God’s calling and purposes are in your life the next thing you need to do is ask the Lord what you should do to plant a seed for that to manifest in your life. It’s not always money; it can be something in your house, something you own or it can be giving time in service to your church or into another person’s life. Whatever God has called you to do sow that as a seed and declare it as such before the Lord when you are doing it.

Once that is done the next thing you need to do to transform your future is to build a living faith image. Take the calling and the purposes that God has revealed to you and create a vivid living image in your spirit where you can see it happening in your life. If you have challenges creating images in your mind or even as a reminder to that goal is to create what I call a Vision Quest. Get some pictures that depict what you are believing for and keep those in front of you. Write out in words what you are believing for as if it were already happening in your life. Then use those to help you create your own living image. Now at the same time you are seeing the manifestation of that dream in your life, start calling it out as if it were already here (Romans 4:17). “I’m getting better. My life is improving every day.” Speak the way you want your future to be, not the way it is now. Don’t let your feelings pull you down into speaking evil about your own life. I know this is easier said than done. We have all fallen into this trap, me included. But even when I do get tripped up I eventually realize what I am doing to myself and turn my tongue around by cancelling my bad words and speaking blessing instead of curses.

If you think your life is worthless then turn that around by saying: “I’m valuable, I’m special, I’m loved and I am a masterpiece in the hands of God.” Call yourself blessed, not sick. You are not your sickness. Don’t claim you have a sickness, like “I have the flu.” No, if you feel it is necessary to identify what is happening to you say that the enemy may be trying to put the flu on you, but your body is healed, healthy and strong and that flu doesn’t stand a chance to get a foot hold in your body. The enemy is defeated, those symptoms are dead and you refuse that in your life. When I was younger, I used to say that I only got sick once a year. Well guess what, I did get sick just once a year. When I finally learned what I was saying, I changed that to I never get sick; I’m always healed, healthy and strong. Then even when something like to flu tried to get a foothold in my life it never lasted very long.

Going back to where we started this article, if you’re thinking of joining a gym because you made a New Year’s Resolution. Don’t. Whatever that resolution was, instead of pushing headlong into some effort to force a change in your life, start by building your faith first by speaking it into your future. Say things like: “I’m thin and healthy. I’m at the right weight for my body. I’m disciplined and focused. I have what it takes to lose weight and eat right.” Start by speaking victory into your life and your future by building your faith with your words and faith images that you can do what the word of God says you can do. Call those things which are not into your life as if they already were there.

It’s not always easy, I know because I have had to battle with these very issues in my own life over the past several years. But I always come back to these same basic principles. You’ve got to speak victory into your future life by using your words today. You are the prophet of your own future. God had to pull me off course and out of action in order to stop me and put me back onto the path He wanted me on and it has not been easy. For the longest time I didn’t know which way to turn or what direction to go in. The Lord just told me to relax and be patient and the only thing I knew to do was to confess: “I have the mind of Christ. I have the wisdom of Christ. I know what to do and how to do it.” Back then I didn’t see anything happening in my life. But gradually beginning in June of this last year 2011, the Lord began in ever so small increments to take certain steps until now I have a list of tasks I am looking forward to, building the future that He wants for my life. This past year He has reminded me of the calling on my life; to speak blessing into the lives of His people. To prepare them for the wonderful world ahead of them and to travel the world releasing the revelation of his love and His soon return for His Church. Am I excited about my future? Yes! Am I still struggling? Yes. But I now know where I am going and I know how to call that into my life. The present struggles will fade as the revelation of His future plans begin to manifest.

By speaking life into your future you can turn this New Year into a wonderful year. When you wake up tomorrow start your day by praising God and declaring over your life: “This is going to be a great day. Something wonderful is coming my way. The blessings of the Lord are overtaking my life today. Goodness and mercy are following me all the days of my life and I am surrounded by the favor of God.” By doing that you will be speaking blessing into your future and one day you’ll wake up and realize you’re living in it, not just speaking it.

May the Lord bless you and give you peace and prosperity in this New Year.

Live in God’s Peace!
